Large-scale parallel analysis
As a parallel finite element structural analysis program, FrontISTR can perform parallel computations in a wide range of environments, from Windows and Linux PC clusters to massively parallel supercomputers such as Fugaku. It delivers high performance and efficiency when analyzing large structures and complex nonlinear problems. FrontISTR uses hybrid MPI and OpenMP parallelism to support both distributed-memory and shared-memory computing.
Diverse and practical analysis capabilities
FrontISTR provides a broad range of analysis capabilities, including static and dynamic stress analysis, eigenvalue and frequency-response analysis, and heat conduction analysis. Its stress analysis supports finite deformation, nonlinear materials such as elastoplasticity, viscoelasticity, hyperelasticity and creep, and finite-sliding contact with friction. FrontISTR is not merely research code: it includes high-performance finite elements, numerous boundary conditions, automatic incrementation and cutback, restart capabilities, powerful linear equation solvers, and many other practical features for real-world problems.
Integration with pre- and post-processors
FrontISTR integrates with open-source software such as the REVOCAP_PrePost pre- and post-processor, the FreeCAD 3D parametric modeler and the ParaView large-scale visualization system. It also supports integration with selected commercial pre- and post-processors.
Distributed as open-source software
FrontISTR is provided as open-source software under the MIT License and can be used free of charge for both commercial and non-commercial purposes. Its source code is publicly available on GitLab, where anyone can download and customize it freely.
Community-driven development and support
FrontISTR Commons operates the FrontISTR open-source software community and carries out activities including development and distribution, Q&A support, events and website operation. Community members can access extensive additional content and participate in events. Companies providing paid technical support also participate in the community, making professional assistance available for full-scale adoption. We invite you to join.
